12-week Program to Reclaim Your Health

Meet the dynamic duo:

United on the field as former field hockey teammates at Georgetown, Dr. Renata Burigatto and Health Coach and Personal Trainer, Susan Brown, are teaming up again to bring you a one-of-a-kind personalized health program at Balance that combines the best of cutting-edge functional medicine, nutrition and fitness.

Their Mission:

In their 12-week program, their goal is to help you nourish your body on a cellular level to reduce inflammation, to shed weight, to improve mood and energy and to prevent disease. Their role is to bridge the gap between your workouts at Balance, your practitioner’s office, and your home kitchen to give you the tools to live your best life.

“Renata and Susan have the expertise to rebuild your body on a cellular level from the inside out. The thing I love the most about working with Renata and Susan is that they’ve done all the thinking for you — the most advanced scientific research is baked into every aspect of their program. Not a moment is wasted! Tackling progesterone, cortisol, and my fasting glucose are just as important as squats and pushups for health. I can’t think of a better way to optimize physical fitness, internal wellness and mental clarity in one stop!”

Their Story:

Renata: Working as a physician for the last 15 years, Renata felt frustrated in a system that only allowed her to see a patient for 15 minutes once a year. This is not enough time for a patient to feel heard or to set up a realistic plan of action to tackle health concerns; 15 minutes is only enough time for quick band-aids. This dissatisfaction led her to pursue an advanced degree in Functional Medicine in order to better help patients understand the interconnected web of their symptoms and to help them design a personalized plan for their wellness.

Susan: Working as a personal trainer and nutrition coach the last 12 years in the U.K. and U.S., Susan has always believed “you can’t out-train a bad diet.” Having helped many Balance clients achieve body transformations in the 6-week Goals Program, Susan was inspired to dig even deeper into the science behind different nutritional theories. Completing her Health Coaching degree with the Institute for Integrative Nutrition, she loves helping clients find the right nutritional approach and is passionate about sharing her belief that “food is medicine.”

What is Functional Medicine?

In addition to our primary care doctors, many of us also see multiple specialists but never experience a cohesive thread tying our care together. How could my stubborn belly fat, eczema, digestive concerns and achy joints all be linked to a root cause? How could the right nutrition help heal me? A functional medicine physician and an integrative nutritionist look for the connection behind these seemingly unrelated health concerns and use nutrition strategically to allow the body to heal itself by itself.

The Foundation of the Program:

Using your comprehensive bloodwork panel as a starting point, Renata will meet with you to address any chronic medical issues requiring attention, to help identify root causes and to prescribe a plan using food and movement as medicine. She will help you to set realistic 12-week goals for all your important numbers – including fasting glucose levels, cholesterol, vitamin levels, and blood pressure. You will then have a one-hour consultation with Susan to learn how to execute your personalized nutrition and wellness plan. You will discuss past habits with food, nourishment on and off the plate, and potential stumbling blocks. She will help you set achievable daily goals around nutrition, sleep, self-care and exercise and hold you accountable for putting them into action.

Training, Education, and Coaching:

The magic ingredient of the program is what happens after your consultations – the fitness training, the nutrition education, and the cohesive support and accountability Susan and Renata will offer you for 12 weeks to help you stay on track. At the 12-week mark, Renata and Susan will meet with you to review your new bloodwork and see how your body has transformed not just on the outside, but on the inside.
